Idle Words
great commentary on AIG
|
economics | hexmode | 03/18/2009 12:34 |
| When a small company does what AIG did, it is called 'fraud' and people are sent to jail. However, since AIG had signed contracts with most of the biggest financial institutions in the world, it instead received a very large sum of money ($170 billion so far). This also makes sense. When a teenage kid breaks your storefront window, you chase him down and give him a pounding. But when the local mafia breaks your window, you sweep up the glass and make sure to increase the heft of your next monthly envelope. | |||

winterspeak's take on the stimulus package. "$65/month is pathetic"

The president said his signature two-year "Making Work Pay" tax break will affect 95 percent of working families, and, in six weeks' time, a typical family will start taking home at least $65 more every month. $65/month is pathetic. I'm surprised he's willing to say the number out loud. It should be more like $1000/mo. $1000/mo is stimulative. $65 is like leaving a 3 cent tip at a restaurant. |

God's Politics - Jim Wallis blog, faith blog, religion, christian, christianity, politics, values
According to Psalm 37:21, “The wicked borrow, and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously.” The money you gave to me was borrowed against your debt. As I see it, this is neither wise nor just.
