Well, there's personal satisfaction, I guess. It does feel nice to be able to crank through stuff quickly. It feels related to why I prefer biking to running -- the scenery changes faster. But if you're more the type who likes to sit on a bench and admire static scenery, then staring at the same function for six days might be more rewarding for you.

The perldb function in Emacs allows you to run the Perl debugger while viewing the source code in another window. It is a much nicer environment for debugging Perl than the plain standalone Perl debugger. This is how to use perldb to debug mod_perl code.

Where Python falls down | FOB
Let me be clear that I think Python is pretty neat. I've seen some good solutions put together with it, and even helped to do so myself. I just think that if you have to pick a silver bullet, there are better choices. Even if C, C++, Perl, and TCL aren't four of them.
