Debian and pam-LDAP - MadBlog
I use now extensively lib(pam|nss)-ldap and was really tired having to forge my .ldif to add users.

We also lost some time in configuring and troubleshooting Solaris servers as they tended to be more complex than our Debian Linux servers.

Three or so years ago when I was managing Solaris boxes, this was certainly the case. At least for what was right in front of you. This was because Solaris had a poor package management system, poor patch installation and more.

At least, out of the box, it did.

It certainly didn't have a nifty front-end like apt (though I did hear rumors about them porting apt to Solaris). This is where older versions of RedHat fell down, too.

There are packages available for Debian that'll upgrade a system automatically, but, yeah, no nice gui front end to manage a bunch of servers.

At least, nothing Debian will sell you.

But, if you're willing to pay RedHat for RHN, then you'd probably be willing to pay a third-party like Perfect Order to manage your Solaris boxes, right?
